The Calendar Reset of 1582

The 1890 census was wiped out. The name of former slaves was not recorded until 1870. Native children were given new names in boarding schools. Immigrant names were often changed long after arrival, not at Ellis Island. The purpose of this documentary is to examine lost census records, erased surnames, genealogy gaps, Dawes Rolls, Carlisle Indian School, and how official paperwork has influenced identity in America.
