The Hidden Knowledge of King Solomon

[Source] I spend a considerable amount of time reading historical literature, perhaps more than i should, some might say, but given the hours I once spent elsewhere in idleness, I consider it a valuable exchange.

Every page turned, every sentence traced, is a small renewal of the mind.

There is a tale I once heard, dear reader, which struck me as quaint, yet I find it too apt not to share:

A young boy sat by the riverbank, a book open upon his lap. He traced the letters with his finger and read aloud softly, yet when he closed the book, the words seemed to vanish from his memory.

“I read”, he confessed to the old man beside him, “but I cannot remember the words”.

The man smiled gently and handed him a sieve. “Go to the river”, he said, “and bring me some water”.

The boy dipped the sieve into the flowing river, but the water slipped through the holes and flowed back into the current. He tried again and again, growing frustrated, yet the sieve remained empty.
