Christopher embraces the heliocentric model as well as the existence of dinosaurs and 'asteroids'. It's comic book stuff. My suggestion is to set all that aside when he talks about it and think in terms of how the controllers are going to exploit the 'asteroid' fears of the gullible masses to possibly create a catastrophic event originating from 'space'.
